Pluto and its bike

A short animation made in Flash. Alex liked the character and said: "it is Pluto on a motor bike" ... so ... that's good and I'm going for it: it will be Pluto! :)

Processing 3

http://www.webalice.it/luca.olmisani/Processing/Three/Three.html
And now for some interactivity !!
A new project MAGIC WEB implements some interaction making the user create its own design.
Read the following instructions to learn what can be modified and how.
As usual here follows the introduction to the project I made for the course:

// Always loved the geometric pictures that can create curves using straight elements...like the picture made
// using nails and threads. So this was my chance, and now I can make the object change its shape while
// doing it, a feature impossible for the real object. For this project my focus is more on the shape than
// on the colors, those I simplified using grey, black and white because I think that
// the 'feel' of this kind of picture is kind of similiar of that of the elegant oriental ideograms.

// MAGIC WEB

// Keys 1, 2, 3, 4 activate-deactivate elements
// s - S save picture
// Canc - Back Space erase

// Mouse drag along y axis increase-decrease the number of threads
//drag along x axsis modifies the angle of the web's corner

Processing 2

http://www.webalice.it/luca.olmisani/Processing/Two/Two.html

This was my second attempt at doing something in Processing, this was an assignment for a course and I was trying to use just the elements that where introduced during the lessons. At the time nothing about animation was explained nor the definition of function was inntroduced, so I managed to produce something animated in a not really ortodox way :)
The result was not so displeasing, and here follow the lines I used to introduce the project to the others partecipants:

// Just some exploration of the possibilities of the conccepts introduced during the third week
// I just wanted something that could evoke the ideas of flowing and sounds
// even if there is nothing of those at all :)
// Here is my result, there are no optimization and there is no real timing of the effects
// I have to find a good way to manage 'time' in processing, but it could be an interesting
// starting point.
// Simple elements and soft colors, I think, is a way for making the efffect not too 'difficult'
// and less wearisome.

Processing 1

This is my first exrcise in Processing, the strange is that Processing and the concept of animation are quite tied, but this first assignement was just about static concepts, and so...

"Just a simple exercise using basic shapes and basic use of colors...
 ... or not? ... don't know but, for me, it is never so simple ...
 after thinking for a while I decided to try to catch the changing
 in shape and color of a subject freezing the transformations
 in their frames. I liked the effect of the small increase in
 size of the triangle, easy to notice in the two first rows
 and then more difficult to see (in a certain way is really similar
 to the real growth of the things), something complex represented
 using simple elements.
 For the choice of the colors ... I know: they are usually classified
 as cold colors, but I like very much blue and cyan shades so for
 my 'private' images I like to use them."

However it was a not so simple task finding a way to upload a working Processing project, and the future posts will benefit of the work done.

Tableless site

Another thing I've done for my new Company: I started back doing web sites as when I started in graphics...and I'm speaking of a long ago: more than ten years.
Now the things are completely changed: CSS gives the chance of styling each element of the project, HTML has grown giving interesting graphical options, the elements of the page can overlap almost freely, the basic structure of the page tends towards the tableless structure, and so on.
So a lot of new stuff to manage, but surely an interesting task ;)
This is the page of a small website done from scratch in a couple of days BCD, one of the softwares developed by the Company I'm working for. Nothing complex but better than having a simple scanned image from a brochure...
And obviuosly there are other projects I've worked on: the actual main site of the Company, a new Corporate site for them, and some other graphic projects, but of all this we will speak in the nex days and posts.

Software Interface

It is a long time since the last post and a lot of things have happened. A new job most of which has to do with 2D graphics and softwares, and animations, and web sites...and a lots more :)

One of the first projects I worked on, was the interface for a new software the company was developing. It was an extremely interesting challange: as almost always in this kinds of tasks not only the graphic aspect has to be taken in consideration but even, and mainly the needs of operators and the functionality embedded in each object have to be planned and considered.

This month the software has undergone the first test with customers, and has become 'public'.
In this post there are the slides used as reference by developers for coding the new program.

So here you can see the starting screen with the name of the product, follows the log-in screen, and then three shots of the operator screen with different active tools.

The last two images are the revisor environment with its main tools activated.
The real object uses a web based interface and technology and this can give some limitation to the freedom of the graphics elements; more while developing some new requests were advanced and new needs recognised, so some implementations differs slightly from what is reported in this pictures. But the core objects and graphics are still these.

Italian Chamber of Deputies DVD

Another multimedia project: every year in Palazzo Montecitorio, in Rome - Italy, there is a choral music exhibition. The event is filmed and a DVD is produced.

The Disk reports the entire ceremony, starting from the National Anthem and the introductory speech of the authority to the exhibition of every single choir.

Using few friendly menusYou can choose which section of the ceremony you like to see, or which choir and song you like hearing.

 Not a very complex project but surely functional e quite elgant.

Frecce Tricolori Graphic project

I realized an image for the cover of the BD + DVD for the Frecce Tricolori project.
You can see it on the left (for a bigger size click on the image).
It resulted too graphical, and was preferred a more traditional approach, the image on the right.
Even if it wasn't used I'd like to show it to you.

Frecce Tricolori DVD

Hi, a quick post just to show you some screen shots from our last multimedia project: the BD + DVD bundle for the italian acrobatic flight team Frecce Tricolori of Italian Air Force.
It was a quite complex project with lots of menus, materials and a lot of graphic, expecially 3D graphic. Infact there is a section, Virtual Flight, where you can see a complete exhibition of the PAN Team, rendered in a graphic style, and from different points of view, to give people a chance of better understanding what happens in the flight formations for each figure of a show.

Some of the menus realized for the selection of the contents of this very rich DVD disk.

And  now the screen where you choose the viewpoint for the Virtual Flight you have three options:
one is from a ground/tribune like point of view, in this way you can see  with a glance what happens in the sky, following the trajectories of the planes, it seems easy... but try to do it during a live show.
One is more dynamic: you fly near the planes. And one is specifically focused on the Soloist of the team and its
manoeuvres.

The last image is a frame from one of the rendered sequences:

but if you like to see more, you have to buy the BD + DVD pack or check my demoreel.
